When choosing a card stock, it’s important to take into account the unique qualities of each type. Card stocks like our 300gsm ivory core, 300gsm or 310gsm black core, and 310gsm blue core are used by Boda Games for board games. A sturdy, cost-effective choice with good stiffness and color quality is ivory core. When cards shouldn’t be see-through, like in poker-style games or concealed role mechanisms, black core and blue core both provide superior opacity. Because of their robust core fibers and durability, which enable the card to snap back into shape, 310gsm card stocks are sometimes regarded as the premium option. This is particularly helpful for games that involve a lot of card handling and shuffling.
Plenty of special finishes
The finish of a card has a significant impact on its tactile feeling as well as its durability. Commonly used finishes include glossy, matte, and linen. A glossy finishes provide a shiny, slick surface that helps color stand out more. A matte finish reduces glare and give cards a smooth, softer feeling. A fan favourite, linen finishes have a textured, cross-hatched surface that makes cards more tactile and premium-feeling while also resisting fingerprints and scratches. For added protection and longevity, a lamination film can be added to the cards in both a glossy or a matte finish. Or the cards can be made entirely with plastic PVC for waterproof durability.
